Warwick Schiller, EQUITANA Melbourne’s Sunday Ultimate Horsemanship  Masterclass star presenter, is celebrated globally for his talent.

Warwick Schiller has a thing about communication – whether that be with a horse or a human.

EQUITANA Melbourne’s Sunday Ultimate Horsemanship Masterclass star presenter is globally celebrated for his equine education. “My real passion is helping people change their lives by changing their interactions with their horses,” says the Californian-based Aussie.

He lives by a quote from American philosopher Wayne Dyer who says ‘when you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change’.

Warwick runs clinics, does a lot of social media and has a YouTube channel with more than 100,000 subscribers. His podcast – The Journey on Podcast – is a chance for him to host “interesting” guests who share their stories about how changing their views of the world has changed the course of their lives. “I created the podcast to share my story of transformational growth in both my horse training career and personal life,” he says.

Warwick is no stranger to EQUITANA, having been part of five so far, and he’s looking forward to 2022.

It was thanks to his involvement with EQUITANA’s The Way of The Horse that his world opened up. “I had never considered doing clinics until I was an arena commentator for TWOTH in 2008 and after that, I received a lot of phone calls from people saying they liked the way I explained things and could I come and do a clinic for them.”

The rest is history, and his love of sharing his knowledge with people has never wavered.

“I am most looking forward to interactions with people,” he says. “At horse expos, we have lots of people who come by and chat, and share their stories . . . that’s one of my favourite parts.”

He has twice represented Australia at the World Champs (formerly the World Equestrian Games) in reining and is a National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) reserve world champion. He has coached others to coveted reining titles including NRHA world champions, NRHA Rookie of the Year, and Australian and American champs.

Sunday’s Ultimate Horsemanship Masterclass will have Warwick working with a ‘problem horse’. “I hope to show that when you stop viewing the behaviour as a problem, then you no longer approach it as a problem.”

It calls for clear communication between horse and human, most importantly understanding how the horse feels about both the handler and what is being asked of it.

“When you don’t approach it as a problem, your approach changes and the horse’s response to our approach changes,” says Warwick. “It really highlights that we do create our own reality, through our thoughts and actions, and working with horses is no different.”

Sunday is horsemanship day with the Thomas Arena Products Reining Masters Championships and the final of the Mitavite TWOTH (The Way of The Horse) – two absolutely unmissable events to inspire and intrigue.

EQUITANA Melbourne is back after a four-year hiatus and with an expected 40,000 people through the gates over the four days from November 10-13, it promises to be a cracker. From top competition to superb star presenters who are coming in from across the globe, to shopping, education and entertainment – it is truly one of the gems of Melbourne.
