Ex- Harness Racer turned Show Horse, sponsored by WA feed supplement company, Fibregenix, has won two major titles at the recent Sydney Royal 2019 Easter Show.
Smarty, a 7 year old Standardbred stallion owned by Tony and Tracey Mallia of Victoria, and now campaigned in the show ring by champion harness racing driver Lauren Tritton, took part at the Sydney Royal Easter Show where classes for the Standardbred horse were reinstated for the first time in many years.
Following his retirement from the track as a successful harness racer, Smarty (Maltrit Park Awesome Cullect) was offered for retraining to Lauren Tritton, who together with husband Shane Tritton runs the highly successful Tritton Harness Racing Team in Menangle Park, NSW. In just a few short months since his new career began he has taken out several Championship titles adding Best Standardbred and Supreme Exhibit at the Sydney Royal Show on Good Friday.
Fibregenix Managing Director Anita Budgeon commented “Smarty is an incredible ambassador, not just for our products but also for the Standardbred horse breed demonstrating that a retired harness racer can go on to have a productive and successful career off the track. His amazing presence and conformation makes him a standout in the show ring, and we’re sure Smarty will go from strength to strength with plenty more titles to come”
